Christmas Dramas!
Both Liberton and Gracemount did a wonderful job of performing Christmas Dramas in concerts, assemblies and services.
The Drama was work-shopped by both groups and it was amazing to see the varied results. I am so proud of both groups.
You showed both talent and maturity! I have heard some wonderful feedback from staff
members and from members of the public.
They all cant wait to see what's next in store for us budding actors and actresses.
Become a ROCK STAR - November 2007

This
event really rocked the house!! It started off with a
VERY attractive chauffeur (not really!) picking up the
"A List" celebrities consisting
of the two bands, Reign Inflame and
Minority.
Then we proceeded to the venue of Libby Kirk Halls where
they were greeted with a red carpet and the finest
cuisine money could buy.... unfortunately
we only had
£50 so it was
pizza and juice! Then
the two bands both did a 45 minute set and they really did ROCK in a big
way!! All in all a good night was had by everyone and
this definitely won't be the last of these events.
Watch this space.....

DRAMA EXTRAVAGANZER
The Arts Extravaganza on Friday 23rd was a big
success - the start of many more events, as some of you have asked!!
Here are some photos from the day! Click on the thumbnails to see bigger images!

We started with costume making to bring out our creativity- I was amazed to see costumes from 'pirate warriors' to Doctor Who- and not forgetting Jessica's injuries!!
Then we did Stage Make-up with some horrific results- even Mr. Macdonald was scared!!
Green Room Gossip was a time to chill and chat about what we're worth (and of course eat Ashley's Birthday cake). We reckoned the world had a pretty un realistic view of the perfect man/woman and that people in general have a pretty rubbish idea of what they
are worth. This is something I have been thinking about for
years- my initial gut reaction is that I am pretty rubbish and not worth anything. I
don't fit into the tall, thin, blonde, pretty mould- therefore
I am not any good! But how many of us do?? My self worth is something that I believe God is working on in me but so
I encourage you that many of us suffer from issues. I just need to trust that God cares and loves me for who
I am.
Later some of us worked on singing, some danced with Mimi and some did drama.
We ended the day with a great little show. It was amazing to see what had been put together in so little time. The dance was amazing and the drama where Dr Who's Tardis landed on Cruella
Deville's car was - interesting!! The singing also amazed me - we have some talented voices out there - next stop Broadway!!
Can't wait to meet up with you guys again and I hope you had fun!

CATS
The show is set on a particularly special night of the year when the tribe of Jellicle CATS unite to celebrate who they are. They emerge from the darkened landscape into a larger-than-life junkyard, singing of their unique abilities and special qualities. They are waiting for their leader, the wise Old Deuteronomy, who will choose which of the Jellicle Cats will journey tonight to the Heavyside layer to be reborn into a new life.
Jellicle Cats come out to-night,
Jellicle Cats come one come all: The Jellicle Moon is shining bright - Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball.....
My favourite cat is Rum Tum Tugger, (or should I say, ‘Yum Tum Tugger’ girls?? It is very scary quite how many of us fancied a cat!! ) He is a playful prankster that the female cats find extremely attractive, and who enjoys being the centre of attention:
Yes, the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat -
And there isn't any need for me to spout it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!
Or maybe, Grizabella, The Glamour Cat, shunned by the rest of the tribe despite being a Jellicle Cat. She left the tribe years ago to explore the outside world and now wants to return. She in infact the one that Old Dute will choose. But not before she sings a fabulous rendition of the song Memory.
Finally, The Jellicle Ball has come to a conclusion, but first Old Deuteronomy instructs the human spectators in The Addressing of Cats:
So first, your memory I'll jog,
And say: A CAT IS NOT A DOG.
A Cat's entitled to expect
These evidences of respect.
And so in time you reach your aim,
And finally call him by his NAME.....
For all of their unique qualities and differences, he says, cats are very much like you.
"I give it 7 Cat Calls" (Caitlin aka. Skimble Shanks)
"One word! Meow! Which means great." (Robert aka Rum Tum)
" We love the sexy Lion Cat thing" (Lisa)
"Brilliant dancing and costumes" (Emma)
"My favourite-The fluffy Owl??" (Lisa)
"My favourite-The Mistoffelees Majician Cat" (Kayleigh)
"The Best was the Macavity song
& cat & the Mr Mistofeless Magician Cat" (Jessica)

NEW CROSS ARTS PHOTOS Click
here!
"What can I say?! It was fab to see so many of
you there, and those of you who weren't.....you
missed out!! Who can forget "Speedy the Turtle",
or Caitlyn falling off the stage (and up again -
thanks to good video editing!), "The
Interpreter" and "Die"! Not to mention the
crazy stage make-up - think we scared the first aider!
The week was full of drama skills, performance and Green Room
Gossip!! We did some work on
characterization, mime,
story theatre, improvisation, singing, devising
and much more. Everyone did so well and a lot of
new skills were developed.

Some things were tough - mime takes work, but how good was the performance?! The story theatre
was a new skill - using new parts of your brain. And it was harder than you thought!
I believe it so important to do quality drama -
push yourselves and do something professional!
Green Room Gossip was a time to think about issues that affect our lives, such as
being tempted and peer pressure. We looked at
what we have to say on the issues and discussed
what God might have to say on the subject.
Whether or not you believe in God - these life
issues affect us all. Don't just say "I dunno
about God" like so many young people do - HAVE
AN OPINION!!!! It was so nice to listen to your
views and mature opinions. I plan to start a new
group at Liberton High (watch this space!) -
complete with Green Room Goss!!!
The best bit
for me was the magic wand game where we got to
hear your hopes and prayers! I wish and pray
they all come true! You are all special and
deserve that."

Cross Arts School of Rock
My usual comments when asked how anything has gone, despite how good is: "It went alright!"
but my wife moans at me for my lack of enthusiasm &
expression so here goes....
It were great!! Na, seriously - it was brilliant to see such a talented group come together. We had three
bands come along and most performed on the Friday night at clubhouse which went down a storm. (even if Michael did lose about 10 drumsticks!!!)
On the Thursday we had a Christian band down from Aberdeen called the "One Band". They were a five piece hard-Indi-pop group (I think that is what you would call it!)
who were far from what a lot of you may imagine Christian musicians may be like!!! The music rocked at the
atmosphere in the clubhouse on Thursday nearly raised
the roof (sorry Jannies - hope your heads have
recovered!!
Looking forward to working with you again (and anyone else who is into music or tech...) Keep an eye out
for our new music and techi club "NOISE" - it will be starting soon in both high schools!

In March 2006 we appointed Paul and Christina
Enever as our community arts workers. Their
aim is to set up and maintain a Christian community
based arts group out of GNC, for young people and
their families. They are already deeply involved in
school and community life.
Originally from Edinburgh Christina is skilled
in many areas of the performing arts, and wants
to see them used not only to reach people, but
to empower them and build self esteem. She has
been involved in youth work for 7 years and is
trained in theatre and voice. She has been a
member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland,
directed and toured with a small theatre company
and managed a performing arts school!!
Paul comes from Bristol and has moved to Edinburgh after marrying
Christina. He is a skilled musician playing piano, sax, drums and bass.
He has an HND in music technology and is experienced in many areas of sound and lighting.
He wishes to use his gifts both to support schools and local projects and also has a
heart for youth bands and youth worship. He also wishes to use the performing arts to
build self esteem and see people reach their potential.
