Gilmerton New Church (GNC) was set up in November 2002 as a new church for
young people and their families. It is
part of the Church of Scotland and works alongside local churches and denominations in South Edinburgh. As a church for young people and their families
most of our work is done in local schools, community bases, home visits or on the streets. Two
areas of special interest are sports and the arts.
The
Vision
To grow a sustainable "new church for new generations" where Jesus can be met, worshipped and followed.
The Process
The process is one of prayer, presence and partnership.
The Reef
groups are the blocks around which God will grow his new church in
Gilmerton, committed to the church and the wider community.
A wide range of Sporting and Arts activities also
take place in the local
schools.
The Strategy
How is a "new church" different from an "old church"? Where
as an "Old church" uses the answers provided by previous generations or other groups. "New church" seeks to listen to the questions
and then answer them using both old and new answers. It is about creativity more than change. So we ask; how do we engage with people,
share or show experiences of God, explore these experiences and then explain the gospel.
