School Activities

We are involved in a wide variety of activities in the local schools during both term time and the summer holidays!

Paul B is one of the school chaplains and along with local youth workers and ministers is involved in the classrooms, corridors and clubs of Gilmerton Primary, Liberton High and Gracemount High. Paul E and Christina are Community Arts Workers employed by Gilmerton New Church and have exciting plans for the new term.

We aim to support the school's staff and pupils in a number of ways.

  • Clubs - see the schools pages for details of the many clubs we run
  • Classes - We work with all the chaplains to run classes in the schools. RE is the obvious one where we aim to show the personal truth of the Christian way, beyond book knowledge.  We have also run  "Values at Work" classes through Social Education and take rugby classes in PE.
  • Special Events - "The Big Idea" is a major outreach by all the local churches, held in the run up to Easter. We have joined in organising lunchtime and evening shows (working with Youth For Christ's travelling band).
  • Pastoral Care - Staff and pupils often face the struggles of life. Our commitment to the school means we have time to listen and chat.  This small scale work is often where deep conversations begin.
